About this test

Understanding Hepatitis: The Symptoms & The Silent Threat

You can book your Hepatitis B & C Test in Dubai from over 1900 Tests available from our Lab at Home Service in Dubai.

In a city as dynamic and diverse as Dubai, a proactive approach to health is a shared responsibility. While illnesses like Hepatitis B and C may not always show outward signs, they can quietly reside in the body for years, potentially leading to serious conditions like liver disease, cirrhosis, and cancer.

Vesta Care is committed to providing a solution that makes it simple to take control. We offer a confidential and professional Hepatitis B & C Test and related STD check up in Dubai, delivered right to your doorstep. Our mission is to eliminate the barriers of traditional clinic visits, providing you with the peace of mind that comes from knowing your health status safely and conveniently.

What the Hepatitis B & C test detects

One blood sample, taken at home, answers:

  • Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) — a current hepatitis B infection
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody (anti-HBs) — immunity, from vaccination or a cleared infection
  • Hepatitis B core antibody (anti-HBc) — exposure to the virus at some point
  • Hepatitis C antibody (anti-HCV) — exposure to the hepatitis C virus
  • Hepatitis C RNA (PCR) — confirms whether a hepatitis C infection is still active
How hepatitis B & C spread

Understanding Hepatitis B and C: how the viruses are passed on

How do you catch hepatitis B or C?

Hepatitis B and C are viral infections that are transmitted through contact with infected blood or other bodily fluids. The initial, or acute, phase of the infection can be so mild that many people don’t even know they’re infected. When symptoms do appear, they can be vague and easily mistaken for other illnesses.

Blood-to-blood contact

Both viruses travel in blood. Shared or re-used needles and syringes, a needlestick at work, and shared personal items such as razors or toothbrushes are all recognised routes of transmission.

Unprotected sex

Hepatitis B passes efficiently through unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex and is classed as a sexually communicable infection. Hepatitis C spreads sexually far less often, but the risk rises whenever blood is involved.

From mother to child at birth

The viruses can be transmitted from mother to child during birth. Screening in pregnancy allows preventative measures to be given to the newborn, which is why it is a standard part of prenatal care.

Procedures that break the skin

Tattoos, piercings, dental work and minor surgery are safe when equipment is properly sterilised. Where it is not, any procedure that breaks the skin can carry either virus from one person to the next.

The acute phase is often silent

The initial, acute phase can be so mild that many people never notice it. Feeling well is the most common way both infections present, which is why a test rather than a symptom check is what settles the question.

Years of silence, then liver damage

Left undetected, both viruses can quietly reside in the body for years, potentially leading to serious conditions like liver disease, cirrhosis, and cancer. Early detection is what changes that path.

You should book a Hepatitis B & C test if you:
Are applying for a UAE residency visa

Hepatitis B and C tests are a mandatory part of the medical fitness screening for UAE residency visas.

Are pregnant or planning a pregnancy

Screening for hepatitis B and C for pregnant women is a critical step in prenatal care.

Have a new or unprotected partner

Hepatitis B is sexually communicable, so a new partner, or sex without a condom, is a reason to screen.

Have had any blood exposure

A shared needle, a needlestick at work, or a transfusion abroad are all reasons to test for both viruses.

Had a tattoo, piercing or dental work abroad

Any procedure that breaks the skin can pass on hepatitis when the equipment was not properly sterilised.

Feel persistently tired or unwell

Early signs may include fatigue, fever, and a general feeling of being unwell.

What's included

What the Hepatitis B & C serology panel reports

Hepatitis B and hepatitis C are two different viruses and are reported by two different sets of markers from the same blood draw. Hepatitis B is read from three markers together; hepatitis C starts with an antibody test and is confirmed by RNA. Your Vesta Care physician explains the combination, free of charge.

Order your Hepatitis B & C test online

Prefer to order it yourself? The two markers that make up the Hepatitis B & C test can be added on their own, or inside a panel that screens for the other sexually communicable infections at the same time. A DHA-licensed nurse collects the blood sample at your home or hotel in Dubai, and an accredited lab reports it confidentially to you alone.

When testing matters most

A Critical Time for Screening: When Clarity is a Must

For certain individuals, a Hepatitis B & C test is not just recommended, but a vital part of preventative care.

For Residency Visas

Hepatitis B and C tests are a mandatory part of the medical fitness screening for UAE residency visas. A positive result, particularly for Hepatitis C, can affect your visa application. Knowing your status beforehand can help you navigate this process with a clearer understanding of your situation.

For Expectant Parents

Screening for hepatitis B and C for pregnant women is a critical step in prenatal care. The viruses can be transmitted from mother to child during birth. A simple test allows doctors to take preventative measures—such as administering a vaccine and an immune globulin shot to the newborn at birth—that can prevent a lifetime of chronic disease for the baby.

The silent threat
Why symptoms are a poor guide

For men, a key concern is that they are statistically more likely to develop chronic Hepatitis B after an acute infection than women. Early signs may include fatigue, fever, and a general feeling of being unwell. These can lead to more serious indications of liver damage. Therefore, knowing the symptoms of hepatitis B & C in men is a crucial first step toward awareness, even though it’s no substitute for testing. These may include jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), dark urine, and abdominal pain. However, it’s important to remember that most people with a chronic infection have no symptoms at all, highlighting the necessity of regular screening.

Signs that can appear — and mislead
  • Fatigue and fever read as any ordinary viral illness
  • Jaundice and dark urine appear only once the liver is affected
  • Most people with a chronic infection have no symptoms at all
What settles it
  • HBsAg for a current hepatitis B infection
  • Anti-HBs and anti-HBc to separate immunity from exposure
  • An HCV antibody test, confirmed by HCV RNA (PCR)

FAQ

Do you have questions?

Everything you need to know about home healthcare with Vesta Care. Can’t find your answer?

Still have questions?
Our DHA-licensed care team is available 24/7.
These tests are just blood tests that detect the presence of the hepatitis B or C virus in the body to check for an infection or liver damage.
You can easily book a home sample collection for hepatitis or any lab test just by calling or whatsapp at 800 4 VESTA (800 483782). A DHA-licensed nurse will be at your doorstep according to your booked schedule.
Test results are usually available within 24 to 48 hours after the patient's sample is collected.
Yes, all lab tests, including Hepatitis B and C, herpes test or any others are fully private, and we do not share results with anyone without your written permission.
No, fasting is not usually required for hepatitis B or C testing unless advised by your doctor.
HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) is the marker of a current hepatitis B infection. Anti-HBs (surface antibody) indicates immunity, either from vaccination or from an infection the body has cleared. Anti-HBc (core antibody) indicates exposure to the virus at some point. Read together, the three markers separate a current infection from immunity and from past exposure.
Not on its own. The hepatitis C antibody test shows that you have been exposed to the virus. A confirmatory hepatitis C RNA (PCR) test establishes whether the infection is still active, because some people clear the virus without treatment. Your Vesta Care physician arranges the confirmatory test and explains what the result means.
Both viruses have a window period, and testing too early can miss a recent infection. Hepatitis B surface antigen usually becomes detectable within a few weeks of exposure, and hepatitis C antibodies can take longer. Tell our team the date of the possible exposure and a DHA-licensed clinician will advise whether to test now, later, or both.
Hepatitis B is vaccine-preventable and the vaccine is part of routine immunisation in the UAE. There is no vaccine for hepatitis C, but both infections are treatable and modern antiviral treatment is highly effective. Testing is the step that makes either possible, which is why screening matters even when you feel completely well.
