Why choose Vesta Care for neurological rehabilitation at home?

Neurological rehabilitation helps people recover from conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves — restoring the ability to move, balance, think and live independently after stroke, Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, or brain and spinal cord injury. Travelling to a clinic during recovery only adds strain. Home-based physiotherapy is simply better: unhurried, one-on-one care in the comfort and privacy of your own space, on your schedule, with no travel. Our physiotherapy & rehabilitation team carries out a thorough assessment and builds an individualized, evidence-based plan focused on your specific goals — rebuilding strength, coordination and confidence in everyday activities for the long term.

When to see a doctor first

Sudden new weakness or numbness

New face drooping, arm weakness or slurred speech can signal a stroke — call 999 immediately. Any sudden loss of movement, sensation or vision needs urgent medical care, not rehabilitation.

Swallowing or breathing difficulty

New choking, difficulty swallowing, or shortness of breath should be seen by a doctor straight away before therapy continues.

Rapid deterioration or seizures

A sudden severe headache, a new or worsening seizure, or a fast decline in alertness or function needs medical assessment first.

For life-threatening emergencies (severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, loss of consciousness) call 999 immediately.

Our evidence-based method for neurological recovery

Physical Therapy

Improves strength, balance, mobility and posture through targeted, progressive exercise.

Manual Therapy

Hands-on techniques that reduce stiffness and enhance movement and comfort.

Functional Training

Builds confidence in everyday activities, transfers and safe use of mobility aids.

Cognitive Rehabilitation

Strengthens memory, attention and problem-solving to support a safe return to daily life.

Every plan is personalized to your neurological condition, current abilities and recovery goals — combining hands-on therapy, targeted exercise and cognitive rehabilitation with family and caregiver training. For any medical concern during recovery you can also request a doctor on call.

The physio playbook 8 tips · 5 min read

The brain and nervous system recover through repetition — this is neuroplasticity. Short, frequent practice of the movements your physiotherapist prescribes rebuilds the pathways that control walking, balance, reaching and speech far more effectively than one long weekly session. Keep to your home programme every day, stay within a safe range, and build up gradually. Little and often is what turns therapy gains into lasting ability.

After a stroke, brain injury or with Parkinson's or MS, balance and coordination can be reduced — so the home environment matters. Clear walkways, remove loose rugs, add good lighting, use handrails on stairs and in the bathroom, and keep everyday items within easy reach. Wear supportive footwear rather than loose slippers. A safe, clutter-free home lets you practise moving with confidence and prevents the setbacks that falls cause.

Many neurological conditions rely on well-timed medication to control symptoms — Parkinson's medication in particular works best when taken exactly on schedule, and therapy is most effective when done during your best-functioning windows. Never change or stop prescribed medicines without medical advice. Tell your physiotherapist when your medication is due so sessions are planned when you move most easily.

Take medicines on timeDon't stop without adviceTime therapy well

Recovery is demanding work, and the brain and nervous system need good fuel. Eat a balanced diet rich in vegetables, oily fish, whole grains and lean protein, and stay well hydrated — dehydration worsens fatigue, dizziness and constipation, all common after neurological illness. If swallowing is affected, follow the safe-eating advice from your care team. Good nutrition supports concentration, energy and tissue repair through rehabilitation.

Balanced, brain-healthy dietStay hydratedFollow swallowing advice

Neurological recovery is gradual, so it helps to record it. Note what you can do each week — steps taken, balance held, tasks managed, words spoken — because progress is often clearer over weeks than day to day, and seeing it keeps you motivated. Just as important, tell your physiotherapist promptly about any new weakness, increased stiffness, falls or a sudden change so your plan can be adjusted quickly.

Log weekly progressCelebrate small gainsReport new changes

Sleep is when the brain consolidates the motor learning you practise in therapy, so good rest directly improves recovery. Fatigue is also a genuine symptom of many neurological conditions — especially MS and after stroke — not a lack of effort. Pace your day, alternate demanding activities with rest, and prioritise a regular sleep routine. Steady, well-rested effort achieves more than pushing to exhaustion.

Prioritise good sleepPace your energyFatigue is real

Neurological fatigue can appear suddenly and limit what you achieve in a day. Plan the most important or demanding tasks for when your energy is highest, break big activities into smaller steps, sit rather than stand where you can, and build short rests into your routine before you feel exhausted. Managing energy this way lets you get more out of both daily life and your therapy sessions.

Plan demanding tasks earlyBreak tasks upRest before exhaustion

Recovery does not stop when the physiotherapist leaves. Family members and caregivers who know how to help safely — supporting exercises, assisting transfers, encouraging practice and giving emotional support — make a measurable difference to results. We train your loved ones during home visits so the right movements are practised correctly between sessions, and so everyone knows the warning signs to watch for.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about home healthcare with Vesta Care. Can’t find your answer?

Still have questions?
Our DHA-licensed care team is available 24/7.
Our DHA-licensed physiotherapists provide home-based neurological rehabilitation for stroke, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS), traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury, as well as cerebral palsy, peripheral neuropathy, Guillain-Barré syndrome, Bell's palsy, vestibular and balance disorders, and recovery after neurological surgery. Each programme is built around your diagnosis and personal goals — restoring movement, balance, coordination, strength and independence. During your free home assessment we confirm that physiotherapy is right for you and design a plan for your specific condition.
Each session usually lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Your physiotherapist reviews your progress since the last visit, guides you through exercises targeted to your condition, applies hands-on manual therapy where needed, teaches you how to manage your condition day to day, and coordinates with your doctor or other healthcare providers when necessary. Our therapists bring everything they need and adapt every session to how you feel and what you can do that day.
Yes — and we encourage it. Family and caregivers are vital to successful neurological rehabilitation. We show them how to help you move safely, assist with your exercises between visits, spot warning signs, and give emotional support through recovery. When exercises and routines are carried out correctly between sessions, it makes a real difference to your results.
Recovery time depends on the type and severity of your neurological condition, your age and general health, how quickly you respond to treatment, and your personal goals. Some people need intensive therapy for only a few weeks, while long-term conditions may call for ongoing rehabilitation over months. We reassess regularly and adjust your plan so your programme always matches your progress.
Yes. Our team can handle the paperwork, pre-authorization and communication with your insurance company so you can focus on getting better. Insurance direct-billing is available where applicable — just have your insurance details ready at your free home assessment and we will guide you through the process.
For most people, yes. Home-based neurological rehabilitation lets you practise real-life movements in the environment where you actually live, removes the stress and difficulty of travelling for therapy, and allows more consistent sessions during the important recovery period. Being treated at home also reduces exposure to infection, involves your family in your care, and lowers stress — all of which support better recovery.
